At the age of 20, Kathryn Stott made her debut with the RLPO and thus embarked on a long and happy relationship with both the orchestra and the city of Liverpool. It therefore comes as no surprise that she has chosen the Philharmonic Hall as the venue for her 50th birthday celebrations and playing her own part in the Capital of Cultures outstanding events. Kathryn has invited 25 of her closest colleagues and for the first time, they will join forces in what promises to be an evening of world-class music. Travelling from the USA, Brazil, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the Ukraine and Sicily, these extra-ordinary musicians will come together with British colleagues to collaborate at the very highest level. No less than 8 Steinway pianos will travel from London and 8 pianists will grace the stage for a pianistic extravaganza! 10 international cellists will perform the UK premiere of ‘Vibrez’ by Giovanni Sollima, complimented by the world premiere of ‘L’ by Graham Fitkin, commissioned by Kathryn Stott for cellist Yo-Yo Ma on the occasion of his 50th birthday. The Brazilian Assad Brothers join the Katona Twins from Hungary to create a very special guitar union. Rising star, violinist Valeriy Sokolov and the outstanding chamber ensemble, Hermitage String Trio, complete this incredible array of artists. Not only will the concert premiere such important new works, but will also include music by Ravel, Dvorak, the Argentinian Tango maestro Piazzolla and fantastic 8 piano arrangements of Wagners Ride of the Valkyries and the Blue Danube by Johann Strauss! Kathryn is particularly grateful to all her friends and colleagues for so generously agreeing to donate their services to charity.
